About the series

Erkenci Kuş (The Early Bird, English title Daydreamer) is the Turkish romantic comedy that made Can Yaman and Demet Özdemir international stars. It aired on Star TV from 26 June 2018 to 6 August 2019 and became one of the most widely exported Turkish comedies, especially popular in Italy and Spain.

Plot

Sanem is a dreamy young woman who wants to become a writer and live on the Galápagos Islands. She works in her father’s grocery shop, but her parents give her an ultimatum: accept an arranged marriage with their neighbour Muzaffer or find a proper job. She lands a position at Fikri Harika, one of Turkey’s leading advertising agencies, where her sister Leyla is an executive assistant.

The agency’s owner, Aziz Divit, has two sons, Emre and Can. Emre wants to run the company, but Aziz believes his free-spirited younger son Can, a photographer who prefers remote places, is the better choice. When Aziz falls ill, Can agrees to manage the agency temporarily and to find the spy leaking secrets to their rival. Emre plots to make him fail, and Sanem is caught in the middle. A mysterious meeting on a dark balcony at an opera party sets off a romance full of misunderstandings, secret identities and comedy.

Awards

Can Yaman won the Golden Butterfly for Best Actor in a Romantic Comedy (2018) and the Murex d’Or (2019) for his role as Can Divit.
