Biography

Tuba Büyüküstün is one of Turkey’s best-known actresses abroad, famous for her leading roles in Ihlamurlar Altında, Asi, 20 Dakika and Kara Para Aşk (Black Money Love). She was born Hatice Tuba Büyüküstün on 5 July 1982 in Istanbul, to a family with Crimean roots on her mother’s side and Cretan roots on her father’s.

Career

Büyüküstün graduated in stage and costume design from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and started acting thanks to director Tomris Giritlioğlu. After her debut in Sultan Makamı (2003), she drew attention as Zarife in Çağan Irmak’s Çemberimde Gül Oya (2004). The same year her performance in the TV film Gülizar won her a best actress award at the Bar International TV Festival.

She became a star in 2005 with Ihlamurlar Altında and made her cinema debut in Çağan Irmak’s much-loved film Babam ve Oğlum (My Father and My Son). She later starred in the film Sınav (2006) and in hit dramas such as Asi and 20 Dakika.

In 2014–2015 she played jewellery designer Elif Denizer opposite Engin Akyürek in Kara Para Aşk, which was sold around the world.
