Çemberimde Gül Oya is a Turkish political period drama that aired on Kanal D from 2004 to 2005. It takes its name from a well-known folk song from the Çanakkale-Biga region, and it is remembered as one of the most ambitious Turkish dramas of the early 2000s, with Melisa Sözen among its cast.
Set against the turbulent political history of Turkey, the series follows a family and a circle of friends whose lives, loves and ideals are shaped by the events of their time. Through personal stories of love, loss and conflict, Çemberimde Gül Oya looks at how political divisions entered homes, neighbourhoods and relationships, and how ordinary people paid the price.
At a time when most Turkish series focused on family melodrama, Çemberimde Gül Oya stood out for tackling recent history head-on. It is often mentioned among the classic historical dramas of Turkish television, alongside later political dramas such as Hatırla Sevgili.
Its strong cast, many of whom went on to become household names, helped make it a memorable part of Turkish TV history.
