About the series

Sandokan (also known as Sandokan: The Pirate Prince) is a 2025 Italian adventure series starring Can Yaman as the legendary pirate Sandokan. Developed by Alessandro Sermoneta, Davide Lentieri and Scott Rosenbaum and based on the novels of Emilio Salgari, its first season aired on Rai 1 from 1 to 16 December 2025 and is available on streaming services around the world.

Plot

Borneo, 1841, under British colonial rule. Sandokan is a pirate who sails the South China Sea with his loyal friend Yanez de Gomera and an international crew. While boarding a cargo ship belonging to the Sultan of Brunei, he frees a mysterious prisoner who believes he is the prophesied warrior destined to free his people from foreign oppression.

On the island of Labuan, home of the British consulate, Sandokan meets Marianne Guillonk, the consul’s daughter, known as the “Pearl of Labuan” for her beauty and her fierce independence; she has rejected every rich suitor. Their encounter awakens in her a thirst for adventure and freedom, and a forbidden love that could change the fate of the island.

A classic reborn

Salgari’s hero is an icon in Italy, where the 1976 TV adaptation became a classic. Casting Can Yaman, already one of the most popular actors in Italy thanks to Erkenci Kuş, made the new series one of the most anticipated Italian productions in years.
