About the series
Baraj (The Dam) is a Turkish drama produced by Medyapım and No Dokuz Productions, written and directed by Hasan Tolga Pulat. It premiered on FOX on 17 March 2020 and ended with its 39th episode on 11 May 2021. The series is a modern television version of the classic 1977 Turkish film Baraj.
Story
Baraj is a story of families, old feuds and a love that has to survive both. Secrets, money and honour set people against each other, and a young couple must fight for their relationship in the middle of a bitter conflict between their families.
Why watch it
Baraj stands out for its rural setting, its landscapes and its strong ensemble cast. The love story at its heart, and the couple’s chemistry, earned the series a place on lists of the most loved Turkish couples of recent years. It is also an interesting example of Turkish television revisiting a classic film for a new generation.
How it ended
Like several dramas in the 2020–2021 season, Baraj came to an end after its second year as channels reshuffled their schedules in the ratings battle.
