Biography

Engin Öztürk is a Turkish actor known for Selim Yaşaran in Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne?, Sultan Selim II in Magnificent Century and Tuğtekin in Diriliş: Ertuğrul. He was born on 28 September 1986 in Eskişehir to a family of Balkan Turkish origin.

From the air force to the stage

After high school Öztürk played volleyball for eight years and, following his father, enrolled in the İzmir Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer Vocational School, graduating in 2005. He left military service in 2006 and moved to Ankara, where he graduated from the theatre department of Hacettepe University State Conservatory in 2012. As a student he worked as a bartender in a bar owned by actor Erdal Beşikçioğlu.

Career

He made his TV debut in 2010 as Selim, one of the young men at the centre of the story, in Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne?. He went on to appear in the cult crime series Behzat Ç., and in 2013 played Prince and later Sultan Selim II in Magnificent Century.

His role as Tuğtekin in Diriliş: Ertuğrul introduced him to a vast audience in South Asia and the Middle East. He has continued to work in television dramas and digital series, and is often featured on lists of the most handsome Turkish actors.
