Cagatay Ulusoy

Biography

Çağatay Ulusoy is one of Turkey’s best-known leading men, famous as Emir in Adını Feriha Koydum, Yaman in Medcezir and Hakan in The Protector, the first Turkish Netflix original. He was born on 23 September 1990 in Istanbul.

Early life

Ulusoy’s father’s family emigrated from Bulgaria and his mother is of Bosniak descent. An energetic child, he dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player and was also a strong swimmer and diver. He studied garden design and landscaping at Istanbul University and started modelling at 19. In 2010 he was named Best Model of Turkey, and on the same night he received his first acting offer.

Career

He starred as Emir Sarrafoğlu opposite Hazal Kaya in Adını Feriha Koydum (2011–2012). The series was sold to many countries, from Ukraine and Serbia to Pakistan, Iran, India and Peru. His film debut came the same year with Anadolu Kartalları.

From 2013 to 2015 he played Yaman in Medcezir, the Turkish adaptation of The O.C., opposite Serenay Sarıkaya. He then led the crime drama İçerde (2016–2017), and from 2018 to 2020 he played Hakan Demir in The Protector, which introduced him to a global Netflix audience. He later starred in the period drama Yeşilçam and in further streaming projects.

Ulusoy has received several awards, including a Golden Butterfly Award.
