Atiye

About the series

Atiye (The Gift) is Netflix’s second Turkish original series, a fantasy drama starring Beren Saat as Atiye. It is based on Şengül Boybaş’s novel Dünyanın Uyanışı and ran for three seasons of eight episodes each, released on 27 December 2019, 10 September 2020 and 17 June 2021.

Plot

Atiye is a part-time teacher and abstract painter who has drawn the same fertility symbol since childhood without knowing what it means. She is in a relationship with Ozan, the son of a wealthy businessman, but finds no peace. On the day of her first successful exhibition, archaeologist Erhan discovers an extraordinary artefact buried for thousands of years at Göbekli Tepe, the world’s oldest known temple site, bearing the very symbol Atiye has always painted.

Drawn to the site, she meets a mysterious girl with a star on her forehead and sets off on a journey that reveals secrets about her family, her past and the nature of time itself.

Why watch it

The Gift mixes mythology, mystery and family drama, with striking visuals of Göbekli Tepe and Istanbul. It introduced Turkish storytelling to a worldwide Netflix audience with Mehmet Günsür as Erhan and Metin Akdülger as Ozan.
