About the series

Mavi Sürgün (The Blue Exile) is a Turkish period drama starring Caner Cindoruk, with Damla Sönmez and Serkan Altunorak in the cast. It was developed with international audiences in mind, especially in Latin America and Spain, where Caner Cindoruk became popular thanks to Sadakatsiz.

The story behind the title

The series takes its name from Mavi Sürgün, the 1961 memoir by Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, the writer known as Halikarnas Balıkçısı (the Fisherman of Halicarnassus). In the 1920s, an article he wrote about soldiers condemned to death led the Independence Tribunal to sentence him to exile in Bodrum, then a remote fishing town. The memoir tells how, in exile, he fell in love with the Aegean, its sea and its people, and turned his punishment into a new life. Bodrum’s later fame owes much to him.

What to expect

Inspired by this story, the series is a period drama about exile, the Aegean coast and starting over, with its leads at the centre of a story of love, friendship and freedom.

Why it is worth following

Mavi Sürgün brings a celebrated chapter of Turkish literary history to the screen with a strong cast led by Caner Cindoruk, whose international fan base has grown fast since Sadakatsiz.
