Biography
Eylül Tumbar is a young Turkish actress who became internationally known as Bambi in the Netflix thriller Biz Kimden Kaçıyorduk Anne? (Who Were We Running From?), opposite Melisa Sözen.
Breakthrough on Netflix
Based on Perihan Mağden’s novel, the 2023 series follows a mother and her daughter, named Bambi after the Disney character, who keep running from a mysterious past. Tumbar played Bambi, the daughter who slowly begins to question the strange life her mother has built for them.
The series was a worldwide hit: in the week ending 2 April 2023 it was watched for 35.8 million hours, becoming the number one non-English-language show on Netflix. Reviewers praised its cinematic style and its performances, and Tumbar’s portrayal of the young, curious and vulnerable Bambi introduced her to a global audience.
A rising star
Working opposite an actress of Melisa Sözen’s calibre in such a demanding two-hander made Tumbar one of the most talked-about new faces of Turkish streaming. She has continued to build her career in Turkish screen productions.
